Today I was looking at the tag of a new pair of pants I have to see what they say about washing them when in a flippant way I notice that the tag size says "11 average." First thing to my mind was, "what the hell?" I don't think I'd be able to get a leg into a size 11 let alone wear them (I just took off these very comfortable pants). After a moment's thought I remembered that the store I bought them from (either Lane Bryant or Roaman's, and that right there should tell you these are not size "11" pants) created a different sizing system which through me for a loop when I was ordering them online a while back. I howled with laughter when I realized what they'd done. here they are creating a system with smaller numbers (MUCH smaller numbers) to make fat people feel less conscious about their size. lmao.
It reminds me of when we were learning about gravity and the moon in elementary school. I was the fat kid then too. and the teacher said we'd weigh less on the moon. Damn, if that didn't make me excited. At least until I realized that all the skinny kids would weigh less too. that's also when I first understood proportions.
