I would get down on my knees and beg every woman to read
this book. By the time I finished it, I was in tears. It is painful to know the extent to which women are abused and mistreated by the medical system in this country. If I hadn't experienced it firsthand, I might have been skeptical, but I've been there and I'm tired of women being forced to accept this treatment.
It's relatively unbiased. Jennifer Block does not have a traumatic birth of her own coloring her research. And this book is meticulously researched, from the founding of obstetrics to the current climate in which doctors will overrule a woman's own right to autonomy in favor of a court ruling forcing her to have surgery...and yes, this has happened, several times.
Birth choices should be as much a part of feminism as the right to choose whether to bear a child at all.
