Farpoint 2013 was so much fun! Because of the wedding and moving, the only con we have been to in the last year was Philly Comic Con, which was all the way back in June. I have been going through con withdraw.
We got up uber-early Saturday morning to get down there in time for it to start. Along with some friends, we played "Fandom Feud", which was in the style of Family Feud. So much fun! We won the first game and then lost the second game. I was proud of my answers for the first game but vry disappointed that I missed the name of a Constitution-class ship (except the Enterprise). The Excalibur was my ship in high school! Why didn't I answer with that? Oh well, it was a blast anyway.
Then I went to a bunch of the actors' panels. John Billingsley (Dr. Phlox on Enterprise and the coronor on True Blood) along with his wife Bonita Friedericy (from Chuck) were first. They were absolutely hilarious! Probably the funniest actors I have ever seen at a con ever. At one point, I was laughing so hard that I thought I was going to choke. Very interactive with the audience. And OMG, don't try to leave their panel. They will literally chase after you. I love them so much I went to their panel again on Sunday, which was just as funny.
The next actor that really was awesome was Rob Paulsen. He is a voice actor and was the voice for Pinky (from Pinky and the Brain), Raphael (TMNT) and Yakko Warner (from Animaniacs). I feel like he was in almost all my cartoons when I was growing up. Even more awesome was that he sang Yakko's World song for me. I told him that I had it on my iPod (true) and asked how hard it was to learn all the many countries and keep them straight. He answered by launching into the song, singing the whole thing from memory. It was great!
The other actors were cool too. Got to see Felicia Day, the nerd goddess from The Guild, Eureka and Supernatural, Giancarlo Esposito (sp?) from Revolution and Once Upon a Time and Lee Aronberg from Pirates of the Carribean and Once Upon a Time (the funniest thing was that Lee spent some time talking about how actors are shallow and not nearly as important as other people like teachers and nurses. Of course, John Billingsley was on next and he totally harrassed him about it. Kept making jokes about us being the little people according to Lee. Again, oh so funny).
Saturday night was very fun. Went to dinner with Zan and some of her other friends. Of course, when our table started getting into a politcal subject (something I am just not really into), I kind of invaded the conversation about fandom at the next table. Hey, I just could not help myself when they were talking about Fringe, Dr. Who and Game of Thrones!
Went around to a couple room parties. They VA Browncoats were pretty cool, although it was fairly crowded. Then I had a great time dancing with everyone at the DJ party in the lobby. Unfortunaly, my husband's stamina failed him and he feel asleep in a chair. He and our friend tried to scare me by them going up to their room without telling me but our other friend there spilled the beans about where they went. That way I could keep dancing without worrying. Good thing because I am so glad I did not miss the Klingons dressed as stormtroopers doing Michael Jackson's Thriller. So cool!
It was a great con and I seriously as considering going back next year.
