Health Tip

This holiday season, most of us will spend a fair amount of time in airports and shopping malls. With all the hustle and bustle of traveling and shopping, it's easy to skip meals and replace them with a quick (and fattening!) snack at the food court. Try these healthy alternatives the next time you find yourself at the 'order here' counter:

* Order plain pretzels instead of buttery pretzels with a rich dipping sauce.
* Try a small fruit smoothie as a snack or a quick breakfast.
* Order a salad as your main dish.
* Instead of ice cream, try frozen yogurt or sorbet.
* If you can't resist temptation, then once in a while (and no, that doesn't mean every week) enjoy a small cookie, half of a cinnamon roll (share it, please!), or a small serving of your favorite ice cream. But don't make these items a regular part of your diet.
* If you decide to go for a dish of ice cream, go easy on the topping. Stick with fresh fruit or nuts. Adding something as simple as hot fudge and candy sprinkles can turn a dish of ice cream into a treat that packs as many calories as a decent meal.
