the roasted chickpea experiment

Jun 18, 2010 14:05

you know, i thought i had seen this recipe in dancingwolfgrrl's food blog http://www.aseasontotaste.com/ (which has yummy vegetarian recipes, says i, even though i am not a vegetarian) but a search on "chickpeas" there shows popcorn chickpeas, not roasted ones, so maybe i will try those at some point.

at any rate, through some other method than the one i had thought, i acquired a recipe for roasted chickpeas--the point being to roast them in seasonings until they were crispy and eat them as a snack. a couple of nights ago i had a craving for something chip-like, i had two cans of chickpeas, and i decided to give this a try.

all i can tell you is that i didn't find this satisfying--first off--it took cooking them forever to get them anything approaching crispy and then, they tasted much more of chickpea than of seasonings, and that is somehow not the right taste for a snack, for me. (i seasoned them with curry powder, garlic powder and cumin. the seasoning mix is good, it just doesn't quite stand up enough to the chickpeas.)

so i am eating the remains for lunch today--lunch is allowed to taste more virtuous ;-) . but i wouldn't make this recipe again--maybe i'll try the one for popcorn chickpeas before i give up on virtue.
