it's time for yet another ssc: i just listened to all of "rent" for the first time.

i bought the CD in for one song ("seasons of love"). i've heard some other songs at showtune night at sidetracks. i sort of know the story and i know about the whole "did they steal the idea from sarah schulman?" controversy. i know enough about the source

I've never seen the Broadway show, but I liked the movie a *lot* ... although I confess that one part I didn't much like was Maureen's "performance art" piece. Maybe because it reminded me of most of the other performance art I've seen ("Performance art: Theater for people who can't be bothered learning lines.").

Menzel was hot, though. (-:

I saw a traveling production of it a while back, and a friend's former acappella group used to do "Seasons of Love" all the time, but I haven't seen the movie yet.

My favourite song from the show, actually, is "Will I?".

I'm still uncertain about that movie. I haven't seen it as a stage play.

I have yet to see the movie - i have heard not so great things compared to folks who have seen the stage version. But Idina is quite the draw anyway. Love her! She married Taye Diggs who was the original Benny (and he is in the movie as well.)

and Anthony Rapp (who plays Marc) was the friend in Adventures in Babysitting! ;)
