Your description of socializing at work is basically my life. Is it some sort of rule that people in academic research must watch and rehash reality television? I miss the old days, too. A lot of stuff sucked, and I think I'm a better person now, but I really, really liked the social life. I don't think that will ever be the same. I'm fairly normal now, too. Which is just... wrong.
I loved reading your memories. I remember a lot of that stuff too. I had totally forgotten about "Tom"; he was eclipsed by Larry's hair and skirt, I guess. That spin the bottle game is a treasured memory. Ditto that Tracy was the only decent kisser there, although I think you'd have found I wasn't half-bad if you hadn't thought of me as a sister, or WHATever. Girl, you'd kiss KRISTEN but not me? That is very fucked up. Also, DUDE! Not everyone in the world knows about me and Christine. Although... yeah, I guess now they do. Heh. Allllllriiiiiiight.
it's not just in academic research, dearest. It's this phenomenon of "living vicariously" that everyone falls into eventually. I just choose to do it by listening to people talk rather than watching TV.
Yeah, I'd mostly forgotten about Tom, too, until I started writing that. He was, after all, eminently forgettable. Which I can say because he and Kate broke up.
I kissed Kristin because she basically demanded it and I was scared of her.
Uh, actually, to most of the people reading this, you and Christine is not news. Just because we didn't say anything doesn't mean we didn't know. :) You of all people should know that.
