the other day at work i was sitting in a meeting. there were 6 of us. 3 DBAs (myself inlcuded), 1 project leader and 2 developers. the diversity of the group struck me as i looked around the room. 1 indian, 1 greek and 1 estonian, all of whom speaking not quite right english with heavy accents. of the other 3, there was the completely stereotypcial computer guy who wears all black, tshirts that say "i read your email", lack of social graces, introverted. the last guy who wasn't me breaks the mold of what you'd expect a senior DBA to be. he's a 28 year old big ex-collegiate level football player (defensive lineman from pitt!). how he went from playing defensive line at pitt to being a senior dba so quickly kind of astounds me.
then there was me. completely average white american christian male. all i have going for me is i'm left handed. well, i guess to have any well rounded group somebody has to be the completely average guy :o)
