The King's Speech
By the end of the movie I was so completely engrossed that I damn near cried. I don't pretend to be a critic, but this movie is quite possibly one of the finest pieces of filmmaking I have ever seen, it's seriously that good. Wonderful performances abound in this amazingly beautiful biopic about Britain's King George VI.
- The acting: Colin gives an incredibly nuanced and wonderfully endearing performance as King George VI and he stammers so beautifully - and that's why he won the Oscar, ha ha; Geoffrey as Lionel is a good buffer for the king's drama and actually provides quite a bit of comic relief in his scenes with Colin; and Helena gives a prefectly subtle - and somewhat cheeky - performance as the Queen Mother, and it's nice to see her not play a villian every once in a while. And all three of the leads play off of each other so well and I greatly appreciated that.
- The cinematography is wonderful. I loved all the off center shots that are so abundant throughout the movie. It also felt like the movie was actually in the 30s...I don't know how to explain it, but it just felt like I had been transported back in time. The way it was lit, saturated, whatever they did to it...it was nice.
- The script is brilliant. Absolutely perfect dialogue even for somewhat minor characters - such as King George V and Myrtle Logue.
This is my live action How to Train Your Dragon...ha ha :)
