Berklee, it has defeated me. I feel like I am running a "finals marathon". I want so badly to just give up but, I can't. I am at about mile 23 right now. One more project, one more big homework assignment, and one more test, and I'm done. I am absolutely exhausted. I haven't slept more than 6 hours since Sunday. I won't get to sleep really until I'm back in California.

If you're in regular college, I'll explain something to you. Instead of having to write a 10 page essay for a final, at Berklee we write music. All the same principles apply. You might B.S. a paragraph or two just to push it over the 10 page mark. We BS a few measures just because we can't think of anything good to write. Depending on the project, it takes about as long to write one measure or a song as it does to write one paragraph of an essay. I will work on a tonal harmony project for 4 hours, and suddenly realize that I've only written about 8 measures of mediocre music. In your essays you have to think of an introduction that will grab the reader's attention and state something relevant. You also have to write a conclusion that somehow recaps the essay and then ends the paper gracefully. Both of these rules apply to our songs. Beginning, middle, end, all must be present. Our thesis is called the "entry". It's all very much the same.

In the past week I have written 4 songs, just for finals. Bach wrote about 4 songs every day, except they were good.

I got conducting done, did well. Had to conduct an Igor Stravinski song. If you know his music you're cringing right now. in Keyboard I had to play some songs and some scales. Didn't practice much (too busy with the damn projects) and it showed during my performance. Still did OK. Acoustics, did well without too much studying. Harmony, wrote a song for the final project but hated it, turned it in anyways because I didn't have time to redo it. Still have to do the final for that class. Ensemble just sorta ended, no recital or anything.

I still have to finish Tonal Harmony. I have a bit more to write, then I have to roman numeral the shit out of it, and e-mail it to him. Then I have to do a big packet of stuff and put it in his box. Then I'm done with that.

Pretty much the only thing I'm really happy with this finals week was my final project for my John Lennon class. I stayed up two sleepless nights working on it and loved doing it. Lots of fun. If you want to hear it let me know. It's two John Lennon songs, all synthesized and shit. Although I forgot to turn in a track list with it so I will probably end up getting points docked because of that. Fuck.

Then when I'm done with everything I have to go to work tonight, then do my radio show tonight, then go to a web meeting tomorrow, then go to work again tomorrow, then work all day saturday, then a plane flight at 8am on sunday, and then sit around for 2 weeks, then back here to do it all over again.

... fuck.
