I love making major computer purchases because I wander gently into Office Depot or whatever, and by the time I wander gently out again, I've left some poor bastard staring after me with his brain shattered in pieces all over the sale floor. "But ... don't you WANT McAvee?" "No, it's stupid and it sucks." "But ... don't you want Microsoft Office?" "No, I use Open Office." "But ... don't you want the warranty?" "No, I'm going to dual boot Ubuntu and void it anyway." "Dual ... boot ...?" "Yes, you partition the drive and it boots separately." "But ... would you like a mouse? or a flash drive?" "Why?" "..."
I suppose I could go to Frye's or whatever instead, but it amuses me to make young men suffer agonies of doubt over their tech dicks.
He tried to find out if I had an Office Depot card, and when that failed, if maybe my company had one. I laughed in his face and said I didn't work in an office. "IT, then?" "Bro, I am a caregiver for Alzheimer patients." "...oh."
Good times, she says, peaceably. Good, good times.
Anyway, he's a new Toshiba Satellite (I really like them) and right now his name is Darling, which is after Arthur from Inception. I'm kind of mixing fandoms because the external I got is named JARVIS, haha. Right now we're playing FUCK YOU NORTON I DON'T WANT YOU, which is a fun game and I hate it extremely. Need to grab a bunch of stuff, of course, but that's my project for the night.
We went down to Cosmic Monkey because a promotional guy was going to be there with Avengers swag. Rene, Dawn and I were all wearing Marvel shirts (Dawn had her light up arc reactor one, I had a Marvel vs Tokidoki one where Iron Man is bench pressing monkeys ... don't ask .. and Rene had a generic Avengers one) and were the only ones who vaguely dressed up. There were about four other people, so the guy threw shirts and posters and pins at us and made Dawn, Rene and I take a bunch of pictures. Thank God, he was obviously thinking, It's girls! Girls in Marvel shirts! I can turn these in and my boss will be like, excellent! BOOBS.
