why am I so cold already? it CAN'T be winter yet, can it? Must bulk up on warm clothes.
School: just turned in a take-home mt this morning... after talking to classmates, am seriously doubting my decision to catch up on sleep this week (aka. less time spent on the mt). Oh well... hopefully I didn't do too horribly.
Academics aside.. I like my grad group so far.. it's nice, I get random emails from them, like a reminder that we have hw for one of our classes (in case we forgot b/c of the mt), or a random comic relief email the night before the mt is due. I get the feeling I miss a bunch of gatherings b/c I go home on the weekends though. Oh well. This morning after class, a bunch of us went to the graduate student association (?) lounge for free breakfast. :) Apparently they have breakfast for ppl there every friday! Must remember that.. free breakfast is always good. =)
Anyway, I'm getting rather exhausted.. not enough sleep most of the time. Average day.. go to bed at around 2, get up at around 7.. yes.. 8am classes suck. :( I've also been trying to study for the MCAT with my study buddy, which is what sucks up a lot of time, other than the two lab rotations I'm doing and the 3 classes.. Haven't studied much for the MCAT this week though b/c I've been trying to catch up on sleep.
I knew I was in trouble when my eyes start closing about 15 minutes after I hit the road on my way home. Last weekend, I ended up calling someone to stay awake. It worked very well, actually. I may do that again. So, don't be surpried if you randomly get a call from me on friday afternoon/evening.. ;) I think I may start buying meals more than cooking cuz that sucks up more time.. Oh and I'm starting to skip meals again.. sigh. and I thought I was doing so well on eating regularly at the beginning of the quarter.
Rotations: I'm finally going to get to start on a project of my own in one of my labs.. the other one still wants me to get the technical training for it first, I think. Makes sense, since patch clamping is pretty detailed and hard. Anyway, so the other day I got to talk to Dietmar about potential projects, and I'm going to start with something on Nek8 (it's a protein supposedly involved in polycystic kidney disease). It's really cool cuz we basically came up with the experiment together.. I guess it's the first time I designed my own experiment.. also I guess I thought he'd just give me the project and tell me to do it.. but I actually had input and helped decide what to do and stuff. Very neat. I'm excited about it. :)
