In a few hours, I join a few managers here at work to meet with David Flaherty, who was BC's first Information and Privacy Commissioner and served for 6 years through the 1990's. He now runs a private security consultancy and sits on the External Advisory Committee to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Doing some reading on the man (thanks Google) has told me all sorts of things. Mostly good. He seems quite impressive.
The most amusing thing I found out though, is that he lives only a tiny distance away from my future father-in-law in Victoria. I wonder if they know each other. Given how outgoing Doug can be, that wouldn't surprise me. They are both ex-government guys ... both lawyers ... similar ages ... living less than 250 meters from each other. Seems likely.
