Still not back to 100% stomach wise, but that will come in time. In the meantime, I got the brilliant piece of advice:

"stop eating strange balls, yes? That's not safe" - RS

words of wisdom to be sure ...

I have been here in Taichung almost a week now and I have done little of anything. It has actually been kind of relaxing.

I get to hang out with Matt, playing cards, cruising to weird places on the back of his scooter (I must look pretty funny perched on the back of Matt's scooter wearing a snazzy pink brain cup), and such. Meeting Van has been good too. She seems quite nice and is loosening up to me more as I am here longer. I am sure by the end of the week, they will be glad to see me go, so they can have their house and privacy back. Until then, all MattEllis, all the time!!

Last weekend we went up to Taipei for fun. Matt and I joined Van later in the day (she had gone up early to play in an Ultimate Tournament - her team won) along with Van's friend. We wandered the night market and say many things! Eventually though, I scared off Van's friend and we made our way to a couple of nightclubs for an all night dance and be fun adventure.

Oh ... before Van's friend left, Matt refered to me as his Celebrity Guest. I kind of like that idea. *smile*

First club we hit was a gay club somewhere downtown. Place was packed solid, so there was little room to move. Odd getting used to smoke in places again. This place was packed full of smokers so it got cloudy quickly. The music wasn't that great, and there was no room to move, so after an hour, we headed out in search of a new place.

Second club was a lot better. Cover was expensive ($800), but the scene was worth it. After entering on the ground floor, we piled into an elevator and headed up to the club proper, which was on the third floor.

The club was divided into two seperate performance/dance spaces. The first room was packed full with a crowd all basically standing in place and bouncing up and down to the tunes of Mos Def, Jaz-Z, and Notorious B.I.G. Something funnier than white people pretending to be black? - Asian people pretending to be black. Biggie was shouting out to the crowd now and again with things like, "All the dope mother fuckers in the house say Yahhhah" to which everyone would yell back to. He did three or four of these over a 10 minute period, then paused, looked out over the crowd and said "All the stupid ugly fuckers in the house say Yahhhah" to which, of course, everyone in the crowd yelled back to ... as they had no freakin' idea what he was saying. Me and this Aussie looking guy next to me burst out laughing. B.I.G. then chuckled and said in a lower tone, "guess it is going to be that kind of night"

The music there was pretty good overall, and I did enjoy the energy. I got myself a screwdriver and toasted to Mel on her birthday there amongst that crowd, as both the drink and vibe seemed to fit with her.

Moving next door in the club, I found DJ Reason spinning all sorts of fun music (I was later told much of it came from the soundtrack for It's All Gone Pete Tong). I spent most of the night there, dancing and generally enjoying myself. I paused a few times to just suck in the flavour of the place, which was packed will all manners of attractive people, moving and sliding about the floor. I also got myself a Vodka-RedBull and tipped it back, toasting Mikey Woj on his birthday. Again, it seemed like the right drink and the the right vibe to fit with him.

I got to hang out on a couch with Van for a while and listen to stories about her. It was quite nice. She gets a good solid thumbs-up from me, as if that sort of thing mattered to anyone. She was much more comfortable and relaxed out in a party environment and seemed to have a good time.

We headed out of the club at about 5 in the morning and made our way to the bus station for a three hour bus home. By the time we got back to Matt's place at around 9:30, we were all pretty bagged and ready to crash.

Tomorrow I have a bit more exploring to do and then we are going to hit a movie, the three of us I think. Saturday brings some hiking in the wilderness, and Sunday brings some Ultimate Frisbee. After that, time for me to head back to Hong Kong and figure out my route from there.
