The point Siddartha was trying to make to people, if you really look at it. It was a game of the Buddha's to get people to let go of their own definition of self and see how easy it was to have no attachments and be cold within, thus never having the ability to show compassion.

Boiled down; its easier not to try to care than it is to care.

Actually I'm an eclectic zen buddhist...Eclectic in that I I draw from the Albigesian Heresy for many of my dualistic views.

I was baptised Roman Catholic and carry a rosary blessed by an archbishop along side my mala.

That is a pretty good read though. Religion and Spiritualty are like a salad bar, take what you want and keep your faith strong to yourself.
