A/N: I almost did an 87th Precinct crossover for the last crossover challenge, but I held off. Glad I did--this is so much more fun to write than actually writing Carella would have been.
The blond man smiled disarmingly, almost benignly. “So, you finally caught me. I never thought you would.”
“Uh-huh.” Lennie was used to cockiness from suspects. He knew this was their guy. Nobody had known his name, fingerprints had come up clean, but they’d finally got him. “Name?”
“Oh, I’ve had so many names, I’ve forgotten the one my mother gave me. You can call me Adam Fen.”
Ed made a note of that. “Now, listen. We have your fingerprints and a DNA sample left at the scene.”
“I must have gotten sloppy. Well…” Adam smiled at Lennie again. “After all these years. Congratulations, Detective Carella.”
Lennie frowned slightly. “Wrong precinct, Mr. Fen.”
“You’ll have to speak up,” Adam said. “I’m a trifle deaf.”
Lennie raised his voice. “I said Steve Carella is in the eight-seven. This is the two-seven. I’m Detective Briscoe, and I’m booking your sorry ass for murder.”
