Super Saver Saturday I am so excited about my trip to CVS today. To start at the beginning, while blog-surfing a couple of days ago, I came across Crystals blog at
moneysavingmom.com She has a tutorial there on how to buy necessities (and non-necessities) at CVS for pennies of what they're normally sold for. Of course this piqued my interest, so I read all the info she has about it on her site, including the comments and tips from others who shop this way and buy $50 worth of stuff (and more) for under a dollar, each and every time they go to CVS. It's kind of a game to pore over the weekly and monthly sale ads, find the items that are on sale, earn extra care bucks (ECBs) to save you money next time, and make your out-of-pocket total as little as possible.
Today was my first trip to CVS using this method. I spent a little over an hour yesterday going through the ads and choosing the products I would buy that a) I either needed in the house now or in the near future and b) that would earn me the greatest amount of ECBs to spend next week.
Here's what I came up with:
22 items, regularly priced at $51.40 total. On sale, my total was approximately $36, I think, before coupons and adjustments. After coupons and my $1.50 ECB, my cost today, out-of-pocket? $2.95!!!! I was so giddy I could hardly contain myself at the register. Tim (my husband), in his skepticism, had handed me a $50 to pay the total, and when I turned to him and asked if he had anything smaller, and told him the total was only $2.95, I thought his jaw would hit the floor. And I also walked away with $14 ECBs to use on my next trip.
Here's what I bought.
1 Palmolive at $1.49, earned $1 ECB
1 Garnier Fructis conditioner at $2.99, earned $2 ECB
4 Hersheys singles at 4/$2, earned $1 ECB
1 Colgate Max Fresh Burst at $2.99, earned $2 ECB
1 Excedrin 24ct. at $1.99, earned $1 ECB
1 CVS Toothbrush with Tongue Cleaner at $2.99, earned $2.99 ECB
4 SoyJoy Bars at $1 each, earned $4 ECB
2 Robitussin B1G1 at $6.29
5 Keebler products at 5/$5
1 Zantac 150 Maximum Strength 8 count pckg. at $5.19
1 package of Candy Canes, marked down to a penny.
Used $5/$30 CVS coupon
Used $4/$20 CVS coupon
Used $3/$15 CVS coupon
Used $2/$10 CVS coupon (to my delight, my CVS allowed me to stack and use all these coupons. He said if the computer will accept them all, I can use them)
Used $1/4 SoyJoy coupon
Used 2 $3/1 Robitussin coupons
Used 5 $1/1 Keebler coupons
Used $5/1 Zantac coupon
Used $1.50 ECB that I had form a previous visit.
$2.95. Unbelievable. I'm hooked. And with $14 ECBs to use next week, I should have no problem doing just as well with the sale items then as I did this week, and most likely spend even less out-of-pocket.
Many thanks to Crystal for the information, advice, and research available on her site. ALL of the coupons I used today I printed from links she has posted
