Unconditional Love 09
Jaejoong walked happily to school. It was his first time feeling this spirited since he transferred here to this school. He really loved this feeling; and he owed it all to a guy named Jung Yunho. Although he knew they were not yet close and it was only yesterday that they had reconciled, he somehow knew they will become good friends soon.
He didn’t give a second thought to the weird looks he received from other students as he passed them. He ignored them all. As long as he didn’t disturb them, he hoped they would not disturb his life either.
Suddenly he caught Yunho’s figure coming out from the Administration Room. He stopped and beamed. Wait, why was he was so happy to see Yunho all of a sudden? And why did he feel this sort of happiness run through him? He doesn’t understand it all. And, he also doesn’t remember ever having held this sort of feeling towards anyone before. Although he’s confused, he didn’t really want to know the answer either. Why? He was afraid of it.
However, not everything can work out well, as Jaejoong realized, when Yunho walked right passed him without even greeting him with a simple ‘Hi’ or ‘Good morning’, or even a smile. He knew he looked as pale as a corpse. That was certainly something he didn’t expect from Yunho. He thought they were already on good terms. He thought they can finally start a friendship together. He thought Yunho could be his friend.
But it seems like he was wrong.
He smiled bitterly as he murmured a silent ‘Silly.’ to himself. He propelled his legs to move forwards. He certainly doesn’t look as happy as when he had just reached school. He didn’t even look up! Mentally, he cursed himself.
How could he think that anything would possibly change between them? He should have known Yunho could never be his friend. Yunho just did what he did because he felt guilty and when he told Yunho that he was forgiven, there would be no way Yunho will come near him again. Yunho didn’t owe him anything anymore. Yes, he remembers it now. Yunho never actually said that they will be friends after this. He was the only one who thought they would be. ‘Silly Jaejoong!’
He smiled bitterly. Why did he hope that he could be friends with Yunho? He should have realized just who he was before he started to think those thoughts. He was ‘so-not-perfect’ compared to Yunho. Aish!

Heechul noticed how silent his best friend was being today. He knew Yunho had been called by the Principal into his office that morning, and he wanted to know what it was all about; but when he saw a fuming Yunho, he didn’t dare ask. That was so not Heechul, right? But he knows Yunho better than anyone else.
“Hey Yunho,” Heechul sat beside his best friend. They were on the rooftop - a place where Yunho found to be the only place other than the Music and Dance room, which could calm his mind.
Yunho didn’t have to look to his right to know who was there. It had always been the same person time and time again. It would only be Heechul who dared speak to him at a time like this.
“Is there anything you wish to share with me?” Heechul started. He knew Yunho wouldn’t say anything judging by his body language. But it wouldn’t hurt to try, right?
Yunho let out a sigh, “Nothing big which can cause chaos.” Yunho drawled lazily.
“It might not but it definitely seemed to have caused your heart some chaos,” Heechul logically replied. He was right after all, since Yunho was looking so miserable. Anyone could see that. Even all his admirers appeared worried when Yunho didn’t smile or talk with them.
When there was no reply from Yunho after awhile, Heechul took a wild guess. “Is it because of your father?” Heechul noticed Yunho twitched a little when he mentioned his father. He had hit the right nerve then.
“What did he want this time?”
Although both of them came from families of the same status, the way their fathers treated them were different. Heechul’s father was far more opened to his wants now after their long and tedious negotiation a few years ago. The old man didn’t force him to do anything that he didn’t want to do anymore; he let him be someone he wanted to be. Although, Heechul was still the one who gave his father a headache with all the troubles he got into.
However, it was far different in Yunho’s situation. Yunho’s father always forced Yunho to follow his wishes. And from what Yunho told him before, his father had already made a list of everything that Yunho should have done by the time he turned 20, which sounded so absurd in Heechul’s opinion. Yunho had a right to decide what he wanted to do, so Yunho’s father should never interfere with his life.
“He told the Principal to forbid me to participate in any dance competitions.”
“WHAT? That’s absolutely ridiculous!”
“Yeah, I know,” Yunho said weakly, “But seriously, you know him. To him, everything except the business world is unrealistic.”
“And what did you say?”
“I told the Principal that I will still participate, so I will not give in to his orders. I called my Father just now, you know. I said all those things that I thought I would never say to him. And do you know what he said after that?”
Heechul shook his head although Yunho couldn’t see it.
“He said if I’m going to live my life the way I want to; then I’m not his son.”
“Yunho …” Heechul was speechless. He didn’t know what to say to that. He knew he should comfort Yunho, but he just didn’t know how to go about it.
Yunho turned his head and smiled, but Heechul knew his heart wasn’t in that smile. “I’m okay with it. If he wants to admit that I’m not his son, that’s his problem, not mine.”
Heechul smiled. That was the only thing he could do right now. He put his hand on Yunho’s shoulder and said, “Yes, that’s right. Let us show him just how successful we can be in this area. He will regret it - just like my old man.”
“Yeah, let’s.”
“I’ll be behind you, always.”
“I know.”
They stayed there for as long as they could, neither want to say anything after that. Because it was enough, support from each other; it was already enough -for the both of them.

“Aaah… it’s so boring!” Ajoo whined as he dropped his head on the piano, which resulted in a ‘Doom’ sound echoing through the room. There was nothing for him to do. He knew Yunho hasn’t been in a good mood ever since the incident between him and Jaejoong last week. But that doesn’t mean Yunho had any right to abandon his responsibility for the club either.
Donghae, on the other hand, was so focused on his work that he ignored Ajoo’s little tantrum. He was already immune to the whining of the younger boy. He did, however, give Ajoo a short glance before returned to his writing.
“Hyung…” Ajoo whined again, but this time he moved to sit beside Donghae and stole a look at Donghae’s work before continuing, “What are you doing, hyung?”
“I’m writing, Ajoo.”
“What are you writing, hyung?”
“A song.”
“A song?” Ajoo’s eyes sparkled with hope, “You’re writing a song? Is it for me, hyung?”
“I don’t know Ajoo, I’m just writing it.”
“Ah… by the way hyung, where’s Yunho-hyung? He’s late. No wait, scratch that, he is very late.”
Donghae shrugged his shoulders, “I don’t have a clue, perhaps Hee-” Whatever Donghae was planning to say was cut off abruptly when the door to the room was opened by someone from the outside. Both of them turned their heads to the door, only to see Yunho’s figure shrouded in a calm aura, walking towards them.
“You’re very late, hyung” Ajoo pointed an accusing finger to Yunho. That simple action somehow managed to make the corners of Yunho’s lips curl upwards slightly.
“Yes, I’m late, Ajoo. Sorry about that,” Yunho bowed his head a little before he looked at Donghae. His eyes searched the surroundings before coming back to rest on Donghae, “Where’s Jaejoong?”
His question, which sounded perfectly normal to him, made Donghae and Ajoo stare at him like he had just grown another head, or four. “What, did I say something wrong?”
“No, it’s just that… why are you asking about him anyway?” Donghae asked, although it seemed like Ajoo was even more confused than Donghae was.
“Err… because he is supposed to be here?” Yunho answered slowly, not so sure of his answer. But, wasn’t that right? Jaejoong was a member of this club, so, he should rightfully be here with them now.
“But… we thought… you and he… had some sort of …’issues’ with each other, didn’t you?”
Yunho shook his head, “We already patched things up yesterday.” Yunho was puzzled. They had made up already, right? He remembered the time spent with Jaejoong yesterday. He also remembered Jaejoong writing on a piece of paper saying that he will show him his other masterpieces. So then, why hasn’t Jaejoong shown up yet? Could it be that… he was being bullied by other students again?
When that thought hit him, he let out a curse that made the other two members of the club stare at him again. “I’ve got to go. You two can leave now too. We’ll continue this tomorrow.” As soon as those words slipped passed his lips, he sprinted out of the room, leaving two dumbfounded people staring in his wake.
Ajoo looked at Donghae helplessly and mumbled, “Like we even done anything today anyway.”
Donghae quirked a brow, “Yeah you did. You slammed your head on the piano, remember?”

Yunho rushed through the entire school, his eyes searching frantically for any tell-tale signs of the young man named Kim Jaejoong. Where could Jaejoong be? He had tried to call his home but then remembered that he didn’t have any of Jaejoong’s numbers. He cursed himself again.
He was very worried. He was worried that Jaejoong might really be bullied by students again. He was worried that he might not be able to get there and save Jaejoong on time. Worried that Jaejoong would… He smacked himself on the head mentally. What is with all those negative thoughts about the fate of Jaejoong? He should not be thinking about that now.
He should think positive. Yes, that’s it. Perhaps, Jaejoong was at home right now. Perhaps, Jaejoong was with his brother. Perhaps… no matter how many perhaps there were, it didn’t stop Yunho from wanting to see Jaejoong, if not just to confirm that he is okay.
Unconsciously, his feet walked on its own accord. He didn’t realize he was picking up speed. And neither did he realize that he was now running and not walking anymore -all for the thought of finding Jaejoong.
Why did he want to see Jaejoong?
Why he was so eager to know whether Jaejoong was safe or not?
Why was he feeling this way?
He wasn’t even thinking coherently anymore when he finally spotted him. Not that he needed to think anymore when seeing the small figure playing with water over there made his heart lift. Not when seeing that person’s one smile can push all his worries right out of his brain.
And without any further ado, he felt his heart feeling lighter than ever as he, for the first time in a long while, yelled with all his heart, “KIM JAEJOONG!”
Jaejoong turned his head when he heard his name being called, and was pleasantly surprised with a sight of Yunho walking towards him. He stared at Yunho with his mouth hanging open in the shape of an ‘O’. Why was Yunho here and why did he yell his name out so loud? He stood up and walked towards Yunho.
He noticed Yunho panting harshly. ‘Did Yunho just run all the way here?’ He wanted to know.
“Why… di-didn’t you …c-come to the c-club… to-today?” Yunho asked, his breathing not yet returned to its normal pace. He knew he should stop and catch his breath first, but he couldn’t hold his curiosity in any longer. The questions from earlier kept coming back, no matter how hard he pushed them away.
Jaejoong took out his hand phone and started typing something onto it. That gave Yunho time to recover and catch his breath again. When he finished typing, he showed it to Yunho.
‘I thought you don’t want to see me again.’
Yunho furrowed his brows, “Who told you that?”
Jaejoong typed again. This time, it was a little bit longer, which only served to make Yunho more impatient. ‘Who the heck gave Jaejoong such a ludicrous idea?’ Of course he’d want to see Jaejoong again. In fact, he really wanted to see him again.
‘You ignored me this morning. When I saw you, you just walked passed me without saying anything. So, I thought you don’t want to be my friend. Isn’t… that the way you want it to be? You don’t really want to be my friend, right?’
“Nonsense!”
Jaejoong was taken aback by the strong tone from Yunho, and stared at him dumbfounded. ‘Wasn’t that what Yunho wanted?’
“I do want to be your friend, Jaejoong. I’m sorry if I ignored you this morning. I just received some bad news at the time, so, I… wasn’t in a really good mood… until now. So, that’s why I didn’t greet you or anything. Actually, I didn’t see you… but I’m very sorry I gave you the wrong idea,” explained Yunho, as detailed as he could possibly make it. He wanted Jaejoong to know the absolute truth, not wanting him to misunderstand anything.
In a split second, Jaejoong smiled widely as he nodded his head several times. Yunho managed to let out a small chuckle while he waited for Jaejoong to finish typing whatever it was that he wanted to tell him, on his phone.
‘So you really want to be my friend? We’re friends from this point on?’
Yunho nodded after reading the text, “Yes, we’re friends. Wait a minute!” Yunho took a deep breath and fixed his hair, which was already immaculate anyway. Jaejoong sported a look of confusion, but hearing the words that Yunho uttered afterwards, his features melded into a look of complete happiness.
“Hello Kim Jaejoong, my name is Jung Yunho. Would you like to be my friend? Because I would be delighted to have you as my friend.”
