Yeah, so the past few months have been interesting.
My father is very ill, and is a paraplegic now, after having dealt with too many strokes and fluid on his brain. He had surgery on Wednesday to place a shunt (we didn't know they were going to do it so soon). There was a high chance he wouldn't survive the surgery, but he did, and it went well, according to mom. It has been incredibly difficult and stressful for her, but she needs to get things covered and get him into a home. Right now she cares for him and she's supposed to be having surgery herself. My brother only as so many uses... he's been useless for a long time. Animosity? Why coitenly.
Maybe people got the hint, but if not I will say that Chris and I got married over the summer. We aren't broadcasting it in some circles for various reasons, but I just got to spend Thanksgiving with my new in-laws.. that's a trip and a half considering how large the families are. The best part was hanging out at his sister's place and getting to know her better... and getting to meet his other sister (who came into town for the holiday). I made sugar cream pies, which went over really well. Thanksgiving standard menu seems to be a little different here than at home, with the green bean casserole, noodles, mac and cheese, and sweet potatoes with marshmallows being very new additions for me.
I'm down here for two weeks this trip, and I hope I can get down over Christmas. I keep looking at Chris and having it hit me over and over again that this is REAL. I get to NAG him and everything! He ordered my ring from Scotland (my favourite place on the planet); it's silver with Celtic knots on the top, it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
Yesterday we had lunch at his grandmother's and then we went to his sister's place. I tasted deep fried turkey for the first time. That was good! Today we watched Boston Legal and ate mass quantities of perfectly cooked bacon... we also had sugar cream pie... I kept one home.
We have a lawyer working on our case for spousal sponsorship, then I can get a green card and not have to go through this border crap every time. I hate it. Cool thing is, the people at the border are starting to recognise me. I got a couple of recognition smiles and two "Hey! I know you!"'s on Tuesday when I came down. Hopefully this is where it starts getting better. We're in the process of collecting letters and past communications and sending them to the lawyer office. ... Yeah, some things had to be censored.
I got to see the beginning of a real life Black Friday at 2:30 am whilst driving back from Chris's sister's place. I hope those store employees get paid a lot of money because, seriously, getting up to be at work at 3am is beyond asinine.
Hope everyone is well.
