Happy Halloween! Except not here because all of South Florida is flooded. I hope everyone else is enjoying the holiday. I am simply enjoying the day off of school.
It's been over a week since I got back from Islands of Adventure, but here's a recap for anyone who is still interested.
For the record, train travel is like the best way to travel. TONS of leg room, big seats, electrical outlets for computers/ipods with lousy batteries/etc, you can bring all the food and drink and whatever you want. It's a great time, cheaper than driving, and someone drives FOR you.
Friday wasn't super exciting because I was tired and it was technically a teacher work day for my friend, so we were grading papers and inputting grades for her students. She teaches first grade, but who knows for how long because she hates it.
Saturday was the big exciting day! Which will contain spoilers for Harry Potter World, so if you want to be super surprised, you should probably not read the rest of this. We woke up early because we wanted to get to the park before it opened (that basically happened, we got there, but then there was line for tickets). And it was FREEZING. Florida decided to have a cold front and it was 50F when we left. I was a super Floridian and wore pants and a sweater all day.
So we get to the park, I buy an overpriced ticket, and we literally ran to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. GUYS, IT WAS AMAZING. All the shops were so cute and there was the train and all the buildings are like snow covered so the weather made it feel really authentic. The first thing we did was go on the new Harry Potter ride which is SO COOL. And not only is the ride cool, but the line is awesome. It was a 45 minute wait, but it doesn't feel like it because it moves constantly and first you walk around the outside of Hogwarts and then the inside and you get to see classrooms and Dumbledore's office and paintings arguing, all kinds of really awesome stuff. The ride itself is really cool; it's kind of like...Spider-man and The Simpsons and a little like the Haunted Mansion, but more of a separate rider.
After that, we went to go eat breakfast and rode Spider-Man, which at that point had almost no line. We basically walked right on. (Later it was like a 45 minute wait, so I am proud of this accomplishment.) Then we walked back to Harry Potter and rode that ride again and looked in all the shops and got frozen butterbeer WHICH IS DELICIOUS. It's kind of like cream soda and butter scotch with a hint of melted vanilla ice cream. SO GOOD.
While we drank our butterbeer, we walked to the Lost Continent, went on a ride there and then did Cat and the Hat, which I had never been on before. That is INTENSE for a supposed little kid ride, holy crap. So we went back to Harry Potter and my friend went on the Dragon Challenge (I usually love rollercoasters, but I slipped on Thursday and pulled something in my back so I passed) and then it was time for a ~special show~.
Harry Potter World has two about 5-10 minute shows that go on at different times during the day, and we went to see the Triwizard Spirit Rally, which is kind of like an introduction to Durmstrang and Beauxbatons students. Each group did a little dance and holy crap were those chicks hot. After it's over, you can go and meet them and take pictures and I stopped myself because I would have been asking for phone numbers.
Since the line wasn't long, we went to Olivanders, which is another show. Luckily not a huge long wait, though there were times during the day when the wait was at least an hour. That was another cute show.
Then we ate lunch at the 3 Broomsticks! We had roast chicken and potatoes, though they also have fish and chips for those who want something a little more authentic. And moar butterbeer.
After lunch, we caught another show, the Frog Choir, which is a little singing show. Cute and well done. And then it was time for the Harry Potter ride again! \o/
It was after 3:00 at that point, so we decided we'd hit the rest of the park on our way out. So we did the Jurassic Park ride and didn't get wet. We were originally going to do Dudley Do Right and Popeyes, but since my friend was so excited that she didn't get wet on Jurassic Park, it seemed a shame to ruin that and we just went ahead to Marvel Superhero Island and did Storm Force, which I had never been on before. I have been missing out all these years, that was super fun.
We got a funnel cake (funneeeel caaaaake) on our way out and went home to a lovely hot shower.
Later that night, we went to go pick up some dinner (drive thru in my pajamas, fuck yeah). And we stopped at Walmart so we could get something to drink since my friend apparently never grocery shops in her life; there was literally nothing to drink at her house except tap water, which is clearly another sign of her work-related depression. So we pull into the Walmart parking lot and....the car stops working. Her car is about 11 years old and a lot of the things don't work as well including the gas meter and the computer that says how many gallons of gas used, which she uses to know when to buy gas. So, yeah, we ran out of gas.
It could have been a lot worse because she bought a gas can from Walmart and was able to walk across a very busy street to buy a gallon of gas. Then it took the car another half hour of pushing and waiting for it to accept the gas and then a VERY tense ride to the gas station where we had to wait at the longest light in the entire world to turn green so we could turn into it. So that was a bit of unneeded excitement.
Sunday was another kind of lazy day. We ate some cereal and then I helped her with grading some more and then it was back to the train station and a nice ride home where my dog missed me SO MUCH. I love my dog. <3
So that was my trip. It was fun and exciting and excellent. :D
Who is doing NaNo? I would like to friend you and hear all about what you are writing! I still have a little less than 9 hours to make that decision for myself and I am excited.
