I realized today that I am very much a different person from the person I was last year. One year ago, I sat at a desk, feeling homesick and unsure of myself. I had set ideas and was almost positive that I knew where I wanted to go, although I had no idea how to get there and quite frankly, that made me nervous as hell. I didn't like the idea of my future being out of my control.
Here I am, a year later. I've grown and changed and realized that nothing will stay the same forever. People come and people go. Places and times and ideas change. I have no idea where I'll be in another year, much less 20 years from now, and instead of terrifying me, I find it exciting. I have accepted the fact that no matter how hard I work, I will never have 100% control over my future... but that's no reason to not work for it. Opportunities will arise that I won't have even dreamt of; or perhaps I will have dreamt of them. I have to roll with the punches and ride whatever comes my way, and I know I'll come out alright.
The World At Large
Ice age, heat wave, can't complain
if the world's at large, why should I remain?
Walked away to another plan
gonna find another place,
maybe one I can stand.
I move on to another day
to a whole new town with a whole new way
Went to the porch to have a thought,
got to the door, and again
I couldn't stop.
You don't know where and you don't know when
but you've still got your words
and you've got your friends
Walked on to another day
work a little harder, work another way.
Well uh-uh, baby, I aint got no plan:
Well I'll float on maybe, would you understand?
Gonna float on maybe would you undertand,
well I'll float on maybe, would you understand?
The days get shorter and the nights get cold:
I like the Autumn but this place is getting old
I pack up my belongings and I head for the coast,
it might not be a lot,
but I feel like I'm making the most.
The days get longer and the nights smell green,
I guess it's not surprising, but
it's Spring and I should leave.
I like songs about drifters, books about the same
they always seem to make me
feel a little less insane.
I walked off to another spot,
I still haven't gotten anywhere that I want
Did I want love? Did I need to know?
Why does it always feel like I'm caught in an undertow?
Moths beat themselves to death against the lights,
adding their breeze to the summer nights.
Outside, water like air was great
I didn't know what I had that day.
Walk a little farther to another plan
you said that you did, but you didn't understand.
I know that starting over's not what life's about,
but my thoughts were so loud I couldn't hear in my mouth.
My thoughts were so loud I couldn't hear in my mouth
My thoughts were so loud.
Float On
I backed my car into a cop car the other day,
well, he just drove off
Sometimes life's okay.
I ran my mouth off a bit too much, oh,
what did I say?
Well you just laughed it off, it was all okay.
And we'll all float on ok
and we'll all float on ok
and we'll all float on ok
And we'll all float on anyway, well
A fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam
It was worth it just to learn some sleight-of-hand
Bad news comes, don't you worry
even when it lands
Good news will work its way to all them plans
We both got fired on exactly the same day,
well, we'll float on,
Good news is on the way.
And we'll all float on ok
and we'll all float on ok
and we'll all float on ok
And we'll all float on alright,
Already
we'll all float on
Now don't you worry,
we'll all float on
Alright, already,
we'll all float on
Alright, don't worry,
we'll all float on.
Alright, already
And we'll all float on alright, already,
we'll all float on alright
Don't worry, even if things end up
a bit too heavy we'll all float on
Alright, already
We'll all float on alright already,
we'll all float on, okay
Don't worry,
we'll all float on,
even if things get heavy,
We'll all float on
Alright
Already
We'll all float on
Alright
Don't you worry
We'll all float on
We'll all float on...
