A Deviation of Normal
Jim pays no attention to Mother's Day.
He makes non-appreciative noises when women gush over their Mother's Day gifts or co-workers blather about presents given to their mothers.
He redirects questions regarding his mother, his gifts to her, and her whereabouts. To bolder inquirers, he just shrugs and says she's gone.
She'd left, and the child he was believed it was his fault. His mother knew he was alien, weird; that she'd birthed a monster. He'd told God he'd hide his freaky senses if she'd only return.
She didn't.
And an irrational part of Jim still feels it's his fault.
