Happy Halloween, everybody!
Yup, it's my favorite pagan holiday. Here are some quick book recs to get you in the mood:
- Ghost Story: OK, not very Halloweeny, but if you haven't read this, what are you waiting for? So good, it actually makes the prior book better by existing. Theological errors/inconsistencies aside.
- The October Country: If I haven't recommended this every year, I don't know why I haven't. Pick it up and ready any random story. It will capture the essence of fall and el dia de los muertos.
- Naked City: has some seriously creepy stuff. The worst author in this collection is Jim Butcher, so I highly recommend it.
- The Call of Cthulu: What? You still haven't read the Lovecraft classic that birthed an entire mythos, not to mention words such as "lovecraftian"? It's brilliant. And creepy. And brilliantly creepy. He knows just how much to let your own imagination run.
With luck, I may have some company photos to post here in a couple days. The science team, sadly, is not doing a group costume this year. I really thought we should come as the neutrinos: up, down, top, bottom, strange, and charm; but it failed to catch on. So I am dressing as the lifecycle of a butterfly. Anyone know how to make a papier mache chrysalis?
