*sigh* Livejournal just ate my entire entry. Today's not my day. Last night I was awake until 7 am because I couldn't sleep and then woke up again at 10 am. So now it's 5:20 pm and I'm yawning like crazy but somehow unable to nap. Sleep =/= my friend right now.
Now, pictures from Lyon!
When we arrived in Lyon around 6 it was was pouring rain and pretty cold because of it. Luckily I had brought my umbrella along but was only wearing a t-shirt and my cord jacket. Genius. Anyways, we all had kebab for supper and then wandered around Lyon.
As we were coming into the city we saw this projected onto a building. It's not very clear because I took it through the bus window.
Last time we were here this street was all dark and fairly deserted.
We saw a couple of these chandelier/street light things. They were really pretty.
We saw quite a few apartments with candles on their windowsills, but not as many as I thought. Maybe the rain drowned them out.
I had to take this photo for my aunt, since she loves Anne Murray Roch Voisine so much. :D
Here's the view from across the bridge. You can see the basilica way up on the hill.
We headed to the cathedral since they had it all lit up.
The entrances alcoves would all change colours.
Then they turns on the long string lights they had hanging up. Those were really neat, I really enjoyed watching them change patterns.
Isn't that beautiful?
I took a photo of this fountain the last time I went to Lyon. The blue light really makes it look bright and wintery.
We walked up the hill to go to the basilica.
View from the top.
Sorry they're blurry. For the nighttime setting to work you pretty much have to set the camera on an unmoving surface, which I didn't have.
The basilica. I love the purple.
Rather than walk back down the mountain in the rain, we decided to take advantage of the free transportation.
The funicular line was huge, but it only took us about 20 minutes to get through the ride and down the funicular (like an elevator/escalator/street car).
Down in the main square they had a really big ferris wheel set up. Sally, Lauren and Amy convinced me to go up it with them. The first loop around I had my eyes tightly closed, was breathing deeeeeep breaths, and was trying not to concentrate on whether the rain would make the whole thing just fall apart.
The ferris wheel loaded 5 cars at a time and we were at the front of the line, so as soon as we got in and started to move, it stopped again to let the next 5 cars load up. It did that for the entire loop around. I thought I was going to die.
And of course the little tea cup/cars/things we were in could spin if you wanted them to. Guess which way I voted? Anyways, I took some video and at one point you can hear Lauren say, "Let's spin more!" and I just yelled "No!"
And I also have video of a really cool projection show on the face of a church. It had sword fighting! But I need to edit that together, so it won't but up tonight.
