Google Voice doesn't understand my grandmother.
One of the services that Google Voice provides is telling you via email what it thinks people have said in the voicemails they have left. It's often comically wrong, but rarely as much so as when dealing with voicemail left by my Japanese grandmother. To be fair, she not only has a thick accent, but she has grammatical constructions that frequently differ from those of native English speakers. Still, I was particularly impressed to receive this email from Google Voice:

Ohh hi and if you know any a cold reading, Phil, Eddie. The client what they are using a about the 8 my keys in the ass, good time to go. If not. 9. Thank you need to open to cell HI. How are you gonna do a dad being, we wanna meet at the get them, or I was black. Let me know, idea, bye.
Do you have any guesses about what she actually said? I sure didn't... After listening to her message, here is my transcription:
Oh hi Lauren, this is Norie calling, sorry it took while. Uh, wasn't it you say, about 8 March is the good time to go? If so, um, my schedule is open, too. So, how we gonna do that day? We gonna meet at the Japantown? Or elsewhere? Let me know. Bye dear.
Some people turn off this feature of Google Voice because it's often so useless. I keep it because it's so entertaining.
