So after the teaser in my last entry, I figured I'd better fill everyone in on the movie The Other Conquest. Isomeme saw this in the theater in 2000, but I was in darkest North Carolina, where if a movie doesn't have Ernest in it, they don't show it. Oh well, it finally came out on DVD.
I'm of two minds on this film, although let me say that no matter how I feel, it's fantastic...filmed in Spanish and Nahuatl (wonderful to hear that language spoken), well-acted, wonderfully framed. First, I understand what they were trying to do with the movie...to show that a coming-together of the two cultures was inevitable, and perhaps better than the cultures separately. I guess my problem with it is that I had in my mind that it would be about the Mexica holding on to their own religion as long as they could, and that wasn't the point. I guess I need to think on it more. *Do* Netflick it. It's worth it.
In other news, has anyone noticed that as you get older, Halloween gets duller and duller? First there's the part where you get to wander around in the dark and get candy, perhaps scaring yourself (as we did one year in a deserted graveyard); then there's the part where you have huge parties and haunt your own house and drink smoking punch and stuff; then you get to dress your kid up as something ghoulish and take that night-time walk again; and then the kid goes away and you're left with old Christopher Lee movies and passing out candy.
If it gets worse than that, I don't wanna know.
