Last night, I entered Milwaukee Best Light's World Series of Poker competition. The gig is this: You sign up, play poker, and the highest scorers get a chance to play a qualifier at the end of each week of game play. The 500 highest scorers from those qualifiers go into a finalist tournament. The top 100 scorers from that tournament get a nice set of clay poker chips, and the top scorer goes to Vegas to play in the World Series of Poker.
Last night, I played in my very first tournament and I tore up the table. I was busting people left and right (I wish they kept stats on how many people you've personally kicked out of the tournament), and the death blow for me was four of a kind - Kings - that took the pot of the second place finisher and left me as Numbah One, Baby.
I've never played in a tournament before, so obviously I've never WON a tournament before, but now I'm qualified to play in this weekend's tournament and will hopefully end up in the top 100 so I can play the finals.
