I just got a brilliant idea, and I have neither the capital nor the background knowledge to get it done.
(sorry for the crappy image, but I work with what I got)
Big Waves would be a spa designed to cater to plus sizes. This would likely have to open in a larger city, and would offer a full range of spa services:
- Hair styling, cutting & treatments
- Manicures
- Pedicures
- Massage
- Aromatherapy
- Facials & skin treatments
- Hair removal (full body)
While the spa would cater to plus sizes (through marketing, of course, but also in furnishings, decor, robes & slippers, etc), it wouldn't be limited to them. My desire is to create a healthy & beauty focused atmosphere where people of any size can come in, not feel like they're being negatively judged, and experiment with their physical appearance.
This was inspired by a thread at
http://www.bigfatblog.com in which a few of the women were expressing their sincere desire to have a bikini wax or full brazilian (one of the most exposing things you can have done outside of a gynecologist's office, by the way), but are afraid of getting a person who would detest having some fat chick open up in front of them. The employees of BW would be carefully selected to ensure that there is no fat-phobia about, so the customers can develop regular and professional relationships with trusted beauticians who can, in turn, help their clients look and feel their best.
Services will be marketed to men and women, and beauticians with an eye for style will be chosen (to ensure that anyone who comes in and says, "Do something with my hair! I don't know what I want!" gets something they love), and product themes will be health-centered.
I feel in my gut that this could make a mint in the right town, in the right location. I just don't know how to get it started.
