I have been a neglectful journaler for the past few weeks, largely because I've been noodling with writing when I'm not being inundated by work -- WHOOSH oh here comes another shower of Stuff to Do Now.
Anyhoo, I'm going to try to hold on until Tuesday afternoon, when I hope there will be far fewer stacks of Stuff to be Done, and when I further hope my new -- my first! -- Kindle Touch will arrive at my door, way-hey.
Yes, I'm succumbing to the lure of the e-reader, but I hope to do so in a v. mindful way. For instance, I'm not going to buy books for the Kindle that a) are readily available in print and b) are books I'd ordinarily trade at the used-book store in my Little Town. It seems to make more sense in terms of money -- even a dollar back on an afternoon's read is nice -- and in terms of sharing resources in all ways.
Besides, I like books, proper physical hold-in-my-hands books. Even cheap, broken-down paperbacks may evoke memory and meaning in ways that pixels can't.
So, while we work and wait and persevere, a few links:
*from last week's Observer, a brief interview with
Dame Judi Dench, eternal queen of awesomeness.
*
Sir Paul Smith is to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for British fashion.
*In other news,
Marc Jacobs' spring collection was stolen somewhere between Paris and London. Official suspicion is on counterfeit-fashion folk, but I somehow envision a sleek cat-burglar, poss. in the image of 1960s Catherine Deneuve or similar, in a fine South Bank loft-conversion, rolling around in her stolen luxury goods. No one tell me differently just yet.
In a week of hard times for so many, I hope that you don't have to steal your joy. Wishing you a wonderful start of the week.
