Our daycare just jumped $40 a week to $165, and that's bad enough.
I know my younger sis and bro were in (part time) preschool and my parents were really broke, but that one was based through a church, maybe church/community ones are cheaper??
This one is a Montessori, though I know they're not ALL that expensive! The chick who sits next to me at work had her daughter in a Montessori, and she was only paying maybe $300 a month.
I think we paid $166 a week for daycare in Somerset. We never found anything more reasonable here, but then we've only ever looked for centers.
I found one that's only $166 a MONTH, but I know that one's really hard to get into :(
That's cheap!! When Fred's son was in daycare we paid $384 a week. That's right, A WEEK, $1536 a MONTH. It wasn't no fancy-ass daycare either, just your run of the mill one around here.
My brother and daughter went to headstart which are free for certain income levels, but they are crappy for an type of education. Plus it is really hard to get them to work with kids on special diets. I just ended up staying home or taking a night job until Krystalin was in kindergarten. We looked at private school for her, since public can't keep up and the cheapest we could find was $50,000 a year.
Yeah, headstart around here I think you have to be DIRT poor, and since I'm only regular-poor, I would never qualify! My sister went to head start, but I think it was more like free daycare.
I've been poking around, and it looks like we're far too rich to get into public preschool (they only want kids who qualify for free/reduced lunch), and we're far too poor to afford the private places. Church-affiliated preschools usually have slightly more reasonable rates, so that's what I'm looking into now. I've got a Methodist thing on my list. I don't even know what a Methodist is! :O
Methodist is one of the more laid back Christian religions. They aren't the type that believe everyone should be converted. Or at least the one that I went to anyway.
That's good! I have this craaaaazy church that has a preschool across the alley from my house, but I won't send him there because that particular denomination is hateful toward women and everybody who isn't what they are. I've never heard anything about Methodists, so hopefully they're ok!
I can't even remember what I paid for pre-school for Bay. Of course, we were in Grand Forks (at Sunflake), so it wasn't awful. I am pretty sure I paid for it with excess financial aid from school, so it couldn't have been too bank-breaking (or maybe it was and I now owe Sunflake Pre-School a billion dollars I've subconsciously blocked out).
I hope you find something you can swing! Can you maybe do a 2-3 day/week thing if you have to?
A couple of the more reasonably-priced places are just half-days, 3 days a week. That would be fine to ease himself into kindergarten. I just hope we can actually get into one of them!
What a handsome little fellow he is! And he's so lucky to have that gorgeous strawberry blonde hair (my friends' younger son has that hair color and BIG blue eyes...what a heartbreaker he's gonna be!)
GOOD NEWS! No demo going on at Fergus and so far The Tour is still going strong. They're trying HARD to find someone to avoid demo. I hope they succeed.
