My Valentine

Feb 13, 2010 00:19

Sixteen years ago, Mr. Bear and I met. For one of our earliest "dates," Mr. Bear invited me to his mother's house for a home cooked meal. He carefully prepared a meal for me (and his mom). He was so sweet. His mom was (and still is) beautiful and lovable. She also had (still has) a mischievous side and likes to tease . From that moment on, Mr. Bear's mom would ask, "So, when are you two going to get married?" or similar inquiries that would turn the apples of cheeks a bright cerise. I would shift my gaze, to conceal my crimson hue. I hung around more and more questions were posed. More blushing ensued. My parents, while not as bold to do the teasing in front of Mr. Bear, did always ask, "What about Mr. Bear? We really like him." Our response was static, "We are just friends." We were just friends until we were more.

Sixteen years. In that time, there have been countless hours of laughter and conversation. There have been very few surprises, as we knew what to expect from each other. Our admiration for each other has strengthened year after blessed year. This is our eighth Valentine's Day as a couple and sixteenth year as best friends. Sixteen years ago, I might not have known that the amazing young man I met would become the stalwart, dashing, mature man he is today; yet intuitively, I am certain I knew. Our friendship has burgeoned into a relationship so unimaginably, beautifully beyond my comprehension. I could not be more grateful.

Mr. Bear's mom offered to take Allie for a few days this weekend. *angels sing* Mr. Bear and I have lapped up each moment together, celebrating Valentine's Day. After we dropped Allie off with Mr. Bear's mom, we soaked in the hot tub. It was absolutely delightful and much needed. We spent the evening watching the Olympics and eating sushi at our favorite sushi restaurant, before I fell fast asleep. Today, after I went to boot camp, we sipped coffee, talked all morning, and then took naps.

For dinner, we made Chteaubriand with Bearnaise Sauce and Chateau Potatoes. We worked together in the kitchen. The conversation flowed and cooking together was such a pleasure. Everything turned out so tasty. For an appetizer, we prepared artichokes with a tarragon, butter for dipping, cheese, hummus, and pita crackers. It was all so delicious!

We watched, "The Hurt Locker," which we had heard great things about. If you have not seen it yet, it is about the war in Iraq. It was a good movie, although it requires one to think about aspects of war that are not pretty. I could feel my heart pounding while we were watching it and I was feeling a bit stressed out.

Tomorrow, we are going to see Avatar in 3-D. Yeah! After the movie, I get to go shopping at Nordstroms. I have the best husband in the world. ♥

Happy Valentine's Day, to everyone!
