Clamor, by Molly.
Fandom: X-Men movieverse.
Darkfic Rating: Espresso.
Although when I watched the movie I empathized with Rogue's fear and pain, I didn't think too much about how she got from unconscious on top of Logan to bidding him goodbye. This is a bit in the middle, and it makes her anger and loss and the bitterness of her mutation crystal-clear and painful.
A Winter's Tale, by Jane Mortimer.
Fandom: Highlander
Pairing: Methos/Joe.
Darkfic Rating: Cafe au lait.
It's one of those stories that blows a cold, sad kind of wind in your soul. It smells like loneliness and snow and gray evenings spent alone. A favorite.
Down to the Bone, by Parda.
Fandom: Highlander.
Darkfic Rating: Cappucino.
Parda calls Gertrude her first attempt at an Immortal OFC, and guarantees she's not a Mary Sue. I believe her, and more importantly, I believe Gertrude, unloved and unlovely and real.
Real, by Brighid (
brighidestone).
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski.
Darkfic Rating: Cafe au lait.
So I'm into crying this month. So sue me. Her summary says "Hope and Despair and an undershirt," which is a rather good summary as such things go. She left out the bit about how hopeful despairing sex is incredibly hot, though.
Even Sugar Peas Run Out of Snap, by k.
Fandom: Sports Night
Pairing: Dan/Casey.
Darkfic Rating: Cafe au lait.
Um. *fidget* It made me cry, OK?

The Woman in Seat Thirty-Eight, by Melanie Mitchell.
Fandom: Due South.
Darkfic Rating: Cappucino.
A train, its passengers, an escape: this is the story of Victoria's heart. You might think it's stupid, but I still think it's art. [Note: This might be the first Old 97s/Due South reference ever, waaay before the challenge.]
Falling Stars, by Rhiannon Shaw (
gryphonrhi).
Fandom: Highlander.
Darkfic Rating: Cafe au lait.
Richie, growing up.

Hatred, by Debra Fran Baker (
mamadeb).
Fandom: X-Files
Pairing: Mulder/Krycek.
Darkfic Rating: Cafe noir.
Two shorts, both excellent and packed with image and emotion. Little coffee palate cleansers...see, I said I wanted to get her to write more dark, and now she's gone and done it.
Holding Back, by Kass (
kassrachel).
Fandom: Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair.
Darkfic Rating: Cafe au lait.
I love it when authors address the parallels of sentinelism and homosexuality, and I love it when they do it with a great Jim-voice, excellent characterization, and lots of subtle layers. Yes, yes I do.
In Your Corner, by Pares (
kormantic).
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Ray V.
Darkfic Rating: Cafe noir.
Another Pares story I'm in love with--what a surprise. That never happens. Knives, wolves, shocky Fraser, and a great Vecchio POV. And almost--almost--a happy ending. Weird, huh? (And check out
the cover by
laurashapiro...very nice.)
