After 6 days, we FINALLY got to do something touristy. Today, we went to the Musée des Beaux-Arts. It's in a former 17th century Benedictine abbey right on the Place des Terreaux. The Place des Terreaux is a beautiful square that contains a huge fountain and the Hotel de Ville. About 90% of the pictures and books about Lyon show this square. The museum was great. I got in for free with my student card which is apparently a common thing for most of the museums in Lyon so I'll definitely be taking advantage of that. The museum had a lot of great art from the Renaissance and the Middle Ages but my favorite were the 19th and 20th century sculptures. It'll be obvious when you see all the pictures I took of them.
Tonight, my roommate and I are going to eat dinner with some people we met in our apartment building and then probably take it easy. She hasn't been feeling well today and I have achilles tendonitis. I think we've just been doing so much the last few days, not to mention the stress of traveling and being in a completely different country and culture. It's tough on the body. Tomorrow, my parents want to go on a walking tour of Vieux Lyon (the old Lyon). I would really like to do that but I'll have to see how my ankle feels. Walking on cobblestone will definitely put a lot of stress on it. We will see though.
Ok picture time. I'll be nice and put it behind an LJ cut this time.
The fountain.

The horses have little pipes that blow steam out of their nostrils about every 30 seconds.

This guy just jumped in the fountain and started picking up all the change he could find. He had about 3 teeth.

This was my favorite sculpture in the whole place. It tied my incredible love of sculptures and greek mythology and it was SO realistic. Perseus' eyes were so piercing. It's by Laurent Marqueste and it's "Persée et la Gorgone" or "Perseus and the Gorgone (aka Medusa)".

This was also incredibly beautiful. The First Funeral by Louis-Ernest Barrias. Adam and Eve carrying their dead son Abel.

We found where they keep all the extra statues that they can't find room for in the museum halls.

We stopped at the pharmacy to get some anti-inflammitory medicine and saw this. This is what bad cellulite looks like to the French.
