Beehives and Hemlines

1968 is yet another occasion when Jack takes him to a pub, after the tests. They’ve just left the docks, when a couple of twenty-ish girls walk towards them. Hair in what he’d been told were beehives, high heels, panda eyes.
And the shortest skirts Tommy has ever seen. He'd thought the flapper girls from the Twenties were wearing short dresses. These skirts are something else entirely.
“Ladies,” greets Jack, smiling at them. The girls simply glance at each other, and giggle, as only they can.
Well, girls and Captain Jack Harkness.
They walk past; both Jack and Tommy wolf-whistle, when they see the view from behind. The girls look back at them and whisper something to each other. Then they put a little more strut into their steps.
Earning themselves yet more wolf-whistling.
“Lookin’ good, girls,” Jack shouts, turning to Tommy with a huge grin on his face. “Nothin’ better than pretty people wearing hardly any clothes. Or no clothes at all, even.”
“What were they wearing, anyway, Captain?” Tommy asks, as they continue walking. “’Cause they looked amazing.”
“Those, my friend, were miniskirts,” Jack tells him, still smiling. “Been waiting for you lot to get around to inventing them.”
“They gonna get any shorter than that?”
“Oh, yeah,” Jack says, grinning even more. “I promise I’ll find you some pictures, for next time.”
