My pictures of The Hub aren't brilliant :( Too far back (even on my gold ticket), no zoom, and my film camera's flash is hopeless, inside :( Digital camera needs buying ( Read more... )

Hmm... I'm not sure what their protocols are in your neck of the woods, but what I try to do at cons is just stand at the aisle close to the stage for the first 5 mins or so to get as close as possible and just snap away until they say no more flash photography, then I slink back to my seat. This way, at least you get a few decent shots.

If you want really good shots, you might want to invest in a SLR camera, otherwise, maybe one of the high-zoom cameras might be ok, but some of those might not perform well under low light situation either.

Will now stop blithering on about cameras... I really need a new compact camera myself.

It's fine outside, or with loads of light; we went to Kew Gardens back in August, and I have gorgeous pics of the giant waterlillies, one of the big glasshouses and Kew Palace. I'll share them. Just disappointed that the TW ones aren't great :(

Any camera is fine outside and with loads of light, but to get good shots under low light, in doors, with no flash, that's where most dime a dozen cameras fail the test. Seriously, even the $9.95 semi-disposable film camera I got 6 years ago take good pics in daylight. It'd have to be really really REALLY crap to not take good pics in daylight! :P

If you want to go digital, I'd suggest you do the research and make sure you get a good one the first go instead of wasting money on something that can only take good pics in daylight. You'll need to know what you mostly use the camera for. If you're using it mostly for conventions, then I'd suggest you get one with a good optical zoom and is at least reasonable under low light conditions with motion stabiliser. Don't get fool by the high megapixel count since most compact camera really can't handle more than 6 to 8 megapixels without the shots turning up really grainy anyway.

Um... I'd shut up about cameras now... LOL!

Ooh, I am envious! I was searching ebay for a Diane-style jacket but didn't find one in my size (and price range!) in time for The Hub. I did, however, find DianeBear, who was a good companion for me on the trip. She will want to be photographed with you when you're dressed as Diane. :-)

The real Irvin RAF WWII-style flying jackets are terribly expensive, new and pre-owned. There's no way I'm paying that much money for one single piece of clothing.

If you still want the jacket (and can spend $80), they do ship to the US:

And as I've now found it on their site, it's even called Aviator

I'll happily be photographed with DianeBear :)

Yes, that's the problem I ran into. I was pretty obsessed with finding a Diane coat but the only ones that were inexpensive (and they were few!) were either a men's extra-large, or toddler size. (Why would anyone want to dress their baby in a RAF WWII flying jacket?)

I've just saved that link. I'm not buying it right now - not with TWO more trips planned to the UK in the near future. (Many bad words for Showmasters for scheduling Hub2 so soon after Hub1!)
