From AfterElton.com:

ON THE SECOND SEASON OF TORCHWOOD

One thing I can tell you is that James Marsters who was Spike on Buffy is on one of the episodes of Torchwood and the scene where we meet, all I'll say in blunt terms -- in John Barrowman and Captain Jack terms -- for all of the sci fi fans out there, it's going to be a scene of extreme excitement you're going to have to go and finish yourselves off afterward because it's so wonderful and horny and sexy and wild.

I've only had two days with him so far and those two days were that scene which took twelve hours and we were just on set. But I go back on Monday and he's an absolute dream to work with.

*thud*

The jacket that JM's wearing is quite clearly military. It looks 19th century British to me; Regency/Napoleonic.

However, a tenner says his character's the rogue Time Agent, with a functioning Vortex Manipulator, and he's also one of Jack's many, many (maybe-not-so-)exes.

ETA - That jacket *is* a British Hussar's dolman. We did stupid things like that, giving our boys *bright red battle uniforms*:

As to how JM got the job:

1. sees New Who

2. &hearts &hearts Jack

3. downloads Torchwood or catches TW while in UK

4. asks RTD if he can be in TW

5. RTD, rabid Joss fanboy that he is, says, "Yes," once he's stopped squeeing

6. we get his character and Jack doing very 15-rated stuff, and the Interwebs break ;)
