Daytime TV

I've been staying home, doing a bit of a clean up, with the TV on. Earlier today it was a choice between Ellen, Dr Phil, and Pregnant at Fifteen (telemovie).

Ellen seemed terribly pointless. It was "President's Day (of the USA?)" and she had the audience dancing to 80s music, interviewed Allison Hannigan about what she was getting Alexis Denisof for his birthday (apparently a Mechanical Bull) and generally talking (half heartedly it seemed) about not much at all.

Dr Phil was all about the family of a missing daughter who vanished at Aruba, not coping with that fact. Apparently there were three suspects and all had been released by the authorities several times. Maybe they didn't "do it" (assuming that she was murdered). What if she's just disappeared, like so many do? They couldn't believe that their daughter had sex with these guys.

Pregnant at Fifteen was a semi turgid morality play about, obviously, a young woman getting pregnant at 15. The whole thing was all about how she should expect the father to dessert her, and how tough everything would be. It ended with the birth of her son, and most of it was all about the various forms of denial that she and her family had over the issue.

Anyway, just what is this? It just seems so... insipid.
