day one. a song
day two. a picture
day three. a book/ebook/fanfic
day four. a site
day five. a youtube clip
day six. a quote
day seven. whatever tickles your fancy

1. a book: Charmed Life by Diana Wynne Jones

Asking me to rec a book is like opening a can of worms /o\ I CAN NEVER PICK, I love too many of them. So I just picked something I was already (re-)reading to save myself grief. I love this book, it's so fun. Really, if you like YA and fantasy, you should read anything by Diana Wynne Jones--she's awesome, and her novels are always really enjoyable and interesting.

2. an ebook: Zero at the Bone by Jane Seville

Okay, confession, I haven't actually purchased this yet; I read it back when it was still a fanfic, but I'm just waiting until I can spend money on things again to buy this. You know all those trashy romance novels that are about the hitman with the ~heart of gold~ who ends up falling in love with his mark and/or captive, la la la redemption and romance? This is that trope only actually good. Seriously. I can't tell you how awesome it is. It's also one of the best blend of crime/suspense and romance I've ever seen done, be it in fic or actual book--the plot is pretty damn riveting, and the romance isn't trite (even though the jacket description makes it sound so). *draws hearts around it* SO good.

3. a fanfic: From The Terran Coyote to The Klingon K'Ortar: Tricksters of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants

This is a Star Trek fanfic, but I bet you'll like it even if you're not into Star Trek. It's gen, excerpts from an imagined book about myths across the galaxy, focusing on the Trickster archetype in Vulcan stories and culture. *_* IT'S FASCINATING. I love myths, and this reads exactly like a scholarly book on the subject in a way that's just delightfully meta. It's short, but really really interesting. Read it! Go!
