A/N: This wonderful bunny I owe in large part to Shay, who convinced me to look at the prompts on RH. This particular prompt was to write a scene where, “Your characters eat Chinese food, and are discussing fortune cookie fortunes.” I hope you enjoy it, and of course, please let me know what you think! :)

Good Fortune
Every Friday night for the last month, Max and Alec had picked out a rich bad-guy, ordered Chinese food, and pulled a heist for the benefit of Terminal City.
In a way, it was their version of a date. Not that it was a real date. You had to be an actual couple to have actual dates. But, it was as close as they got, and Alec certainly wasn’t complaining.
Spending time with Max, eating Chinese food, stealing from the rich to give to the poor…what more could a guy want?
Or at least, that was what he’d told himself until he’d started to realize he did want more. But seeing as Max was only pretending to be with him to keep the real “love of her life” from dropping dead, being her friend was gonna have to be enough.
He’d almost convinced himself that it was, too.
Almost.
Trying to ignore those thoughts, Alec reached into the bag from their latest take-out order and pulled out the complimentary fortune cookies. He took one for himself and tossed the other to Max, then leaned back against the couch and broke the cookie in half, looking at the small piece of paper in his hand:
Do not lose hope. The road is long and treacherous, but you will find love at your journey's end.
Your lucky numbers: 4, 5, and 2
Alec blinked, staring at the fortune mutely before clearing his throat.
“Hey, Max,” he asked, his tone deliberately casual, “what does your fortune say?”
“The usual,” Max answered. “You know, ‘If you come to a fork in the road, cross your eyes and walk backwards…blah, blah, woof, woof.’ What’d you get?”
Alec felt a strange pang of disappointment, but pushed it away.
“Same thing,” he shrugged, tossing the small slip of paper on the floor. “So, you ready for a little B&E?”
“Was wonderin’ when you’d ask.”
Max set aside the now-empty take-out box, and pushed herself up from the sofa, heading for the door of his apartment. Alec started after her, but hesitated, then bent to pick up the small piece of paper and tucked it in his pocket.
A little good fortune couldn’t hurt.
