Whew!
It is freakin hot here. However today it is raining..which makes it a little better.
On saturday there was a festival called Green Day at the Visitor's Bureau that I am working at. The Pinglape people, who live on an island that is still a part of Pohnpei, came and brought crafts that they had made and fruit that they'd grown. It was a festival to promote maintaining the culture and growing your own fruits...not many people came...but I bought my first local skirt! It is much like a patchwork quilt..but with flowery materials. The skirts here that women wear are really beautiful...they are solid colors and then on the bottom it is zigzagged and then there is fabric sewn into the bottom in the shape of flowers and other stuff...
anyway...the people are really nice here...once they stop staring at the weird looking white girl and actually start talking to me. One of the guys that works at the hotel asked me if i wanted to go out this weekend..and i said yes before i realized it would just be me and him, he is nice, but i don't want him to get the idea that naked time might be involved....
there is a local drink here called sakou and it is made out of kava...it gets you all kinds of fucked up because there is lsd in it...all of the local people are anxious to get me to drink it and i think it will happen soon. once i stop getting sick from the food at night.
