FILL - If I'm Not Dying (Part 4)lauehimeMay 20 2014, 05:29:47 UTC
Dean stayed at Sam’s side for a while. His brother was completely still and quiet. It felt strange to watch this version of Sam being so vulnerable and powerless. Robo Sam was a ruthless hunter after all.
Dean heard a flutter of wings. He wasn’t surprised when he heard footsteps and the deep stoic voice that followed.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here sooner. How is he?” Castiel asked. Dean didn’t bother turning around.
“In a coma. He should get better eventually, no thanks to you”
“I was busy, up in heaven” Castiel explained.
Dean finally turned around with accusing eyes. “Too busy to come down and heal him? Of course, you had more important meetings to attend to”
Castiel’s jaw clenched tighter. “Heaven is at war, Dean” he emphasized, trying to resonate the stubborn Winchester.
“Of course that means it’s okay to let my brother die” Dean spat.
“A few days ago you were ready to kill him yourself” Castiel recalled incredulously. He had needed to heal Sam after Dean had almost beaten him to death.
“I didn’t know he was soulless, I thought he was just being a dick. Now I need him alive if I want to bring his soul back from the Cage”
Castiel nodded and closed the distance between himself and the Winchesters. He raised two fingers to both their heads and Dean felt as if the floor had been robbed under his feet. When he opened wary eyes, he was back in the motel room. Castiel was gone.
Sam started to stir where he was lying on the bed. Dean almost ran to his side, forgetting his anger to his most visceral big brother response in the face of his little brother’s pain.
“Hey, you okay?”
Sam’s eyes widened when he took a good look at his brother. “What the hell is it with you?” he grunted, concerned at Dean’s sudden bout of affection.
“It’s a simple question. No need to get bitchy” Dean rolled his eyes.
Sam snorted. “You look like someone’s dying and since I’m obviously not, what the hell crawled up your ass and died?”
Dean rolled his eyes. “Whatever. Good to have you back, Norman Bates” he mumbled to himself. Robo Sam looked puzzled. Sam’s body was functional again and that’s all Dean needed to know when he’d get his brother’s soul out of Hell.
“Oh and if you ever hide anything from me, even if it’s just a headache, I’ll kick your ass!” Dean threatened suddenly after silence had settled between them.
Something flashed on Sam’s usually stoic face. “I will” he finally conceded.
Dean forced a smile before going back to search for a way to get Sam’s soul back. He would do anything, at that point.

Thank you!!!!! I'm glad you liked the dynamic because it was my very first attempt at writing soulless Sam and I was really hoping it came out right. It was a challenge writing the brothers apart since I love the brotherly bond so much :P

I loved all of the different robotic references you included here. And how Dean didn't fault with Souless Sam's quick, clean work. I've always been interested in fics that explored Souless Sam getting sick/injured. It would suck to not be able to sleep things off.

It definitely would!! Unless he gets sleepy, which is a worrisome fact on its own. I must admit I haven't read too many fics for that period, but did find some rather interesting ones, still. I'm glad you found mine interesting!! I was hoping it would be enjoyable :P
