[Kay doesn't want it to come to this.

The tranquilizer gun in his hand can take down a human and leave them twitching on the floor. But they'll recover without a deathtoll. The aspirin solution mixed into it? Will kill a Time Lord. He's been following Narvin for a while. He needs to catch him before he makes a worse mistake.

He doesn't even know about who he's hurt already.

Kay turns into one of the corridors from the stairewell, gun up and reared to go.]

[Narvinektralonum pads down the corridor, his Gallifreyan robes swirling about his feet. One hand clutches Harris' arm possessively. His slave may be a little battered, but he's provided ample entertainment, even if none of the aliens were able to provide him with useful information.

When he sees a new alien emerging from the stairwell, he initially thinks that this one will be as easy dealt with as the others. Then he feels the smooth, impenetrable wall where the alien's mind should be and he's unnerved enough that he hesitates for a split second, no movement to attack or escape, no commands for Harris, just a vain attempt to psychically scale that wall.]

That's impossible. [He mutters. A telepath shielding himself would create a more organic structure. This was different. Unnatural. It must be the work of the Technologists, some sort of artificial block.]

[Harris is bruised and a little bloodied, but he can still fight. Worse still, he wants to now. The Gallifryean's control has only grown stronger with time, and now he's not even sure he wants to fight it anymore. It helps that half of the people Narvinektralonum ordered him to fight he probably would have fought anyway, and the ones he hadn't... well, it's hard to remember them anyway.

He's on point, Narvinektralonum slightly behind him, gripping his arm. He hears the stranger's approach before he sees him, though only barely. Whoever it is, they're concealing their footsteps, and only the silence of the corridors lets him hear it. When the man turns the corridor and faces them, he feels his master's confidence waver, only for a second, but it's enough. He steps forward, automatically putting himself between the newcomer and the Gallifryean, even without the command. Narvinektralonum's control has insinuated itself enough that he's doing what he would want him to do even without being ordered to do it.]Turn back now or you'll die ( ... )

[After his brief moment of hesitation at encountering something unexpected, Narvinektralonum regains his arrogant confidence. He may not be able to access the alien's mind, but he still has his unwillingly loyal body guard. He slinks back a few steps to clear himself away from the fight.]

[Kay's expression doesn't waver, fearless as ever. It's almost too easy. It doesn't look like Narvin. Maybe it's the way his last regeneration looked. Whatever is happening, he points the tranquilizer gun at Narvin.

He has to remind himself this is not some hostile thing. That it is Narvin still there and he's going to feel the repercussions of whatever he does. And this poor guy, whoever he was, is a victim.]

Son, I suggest you step aside. [He'd bother to tell him that, but Kay isn't even slowing down, and he's heading at them with completely doubtless confidence.]

[Without hesitation Harris plants himself between this man and his master, blocking any shot at him. He'll have to go through him if he wants the Gallifryean, who's clearly his target.]

Never. [His face is glazed and dull despite his defiant words, but the hostility in his posture is very real. There won't be any toying with this one - he can feel Narvinektralonum's will touching his again, commanding him to dispatch the old man, and quickly. He pulls the M16 from his back, stripped and reassembled after his fight with the monster, and levels it at Kay with every intention of blowing his head off.]

[Kay's fortunate to have his gun already out, and he aims it to shoot a tranq. Not into Harris, but rather to strike the raised M16 and knock it to the side. That way he has ample opportunity to bullrush the kid before he can aim it again.]

[Even in his entranced state, Harris can tell that the old man's gun isn't a conventional firearm - the muzzle's all wrong for it, it's something new. So he's expecting the shot to be aimed at he himself, and he approaches accordingly. He's counting on the flak jacket to protect him, but it turns out the jacket isn't what this guy aims for at all. The shot hits his M16, and while it doesn't knock it out of his hands - after Gorefiend, he'll die before he releases the rifle again - it does throw off his aim long enough for the geezer to get in close. He hits surprisingly hard, and in response Harris hits the ground and swings his gun up, attempting to nail the guy with a brutal blow under his chin.]

[He brings up his arm to block that blow, and ends up cracking the tranq gun. Fuck. Fine! Fine. That won't work now, but if anything Kay can improvise. He tosses it with his now throbbing hand, and grabs at the gun to yank out the cartridge. He'll be damned if he sees anyone shot for just stepping outside of their room.]

[Dimly, Harris is wondering just how the hell this guy can be so fast. He looks like an oldtimer, but he moves faster than anyone he's ever fought. It's easy to keep fighting, though - military training programmed it to fight without thinking, and with Narvinektralonum's will still reigning over his own, the thought of self-preservation doesn't enter his mind. Even as the guy yanks the cartridge out of his rifle he's going for his knife with one hand, loosing his grip on the M16 in the process. He knows more than one way to kill a gook.]

[What's good for either stripping open an alien's disguise when he's caught crossing the border as a faux immigrant or while facing off with a brainwashed man? Having a knife on a spring-loader up his sleeve.

When he's back in his normal state of mind, he'll recall how shitty it was when the Elsidian took over his mind and used him against the current Elle. How he would have killed her were it not for a gut reaction to her scanner flash.

But now he just has to act.

He flicks out the knife, but he's not going to use it on Harris. Instead he throws it at Narvin, while bringing his other hand around to try an catch Harris's knife-wielding arm by the wrist.]

[Narvinektralonum is watching the fight intently, a slight smile on his face as Harris drew his knife and a deep thrill at the thought of bloodshed. He wasn't expecting Kay to draw a knife as well; even less was he expecting that knife to be thrown at *him*. The blade sinks into his left shoulder, nicking the small, highly sensitive nerve cluster all Gallifreyans have there.

Physically, the damage is minimal. But the pain that shoots from his shoulder down his whole body is unlike anything the aristocrat has experienced before. He screams and falls against the wall to keep himself upright, his vision greying. His psychic control has snapped with the shock, and he scrambles to try to regain it. He attempts to pull the knife out but screams again before he's moved it more than a centimeter. The pain leaves him sick and barely conscious.]

[Teeth gritted, Harris thrusts that blade straight at the old man's ribcage - but instead of sinking deep into flesh, it stops inches from his flesh and goes no further. The old man's got hold of his wrist, his grip vicelike. Close combat training kicks in, and he drops his M16 and moves to grab the guy's neck with his now free hand, aiming for a nerve cluster that should immobilize him.

Then a tremor passes through the sergeant - not through his body, but through his mind - as Narvinektralonum's control is momentarily disrupted by that surge of pain he's experiencing. The sensation's enough to stop Harris right where he is - he freezes up like a computer that just crashed, his subconscious temporarily stunned by the sudden loosing of the Gallifryean's control. He doesn't loose his grip on his blade, but his furious struggle to plunge it into the old man's chest is halted.]

[It's a shock, but he has to get this kid off of him and not nicely ask him. In case Narvin gets his shit together. He thrusts the heal of his hand into Harris's elbow, intentending to make him let go so he can quickly scuttle backward.] Just get out of here! Fucking run! [He orders him, 'cause he knows Narvin's held up but he doesn't know for how long.]

[It works. The old man hitting that nerve cluster in his elbow snaps him out of his funk, and his eyes clear.] I- [He's just about to ask questions, to protest, when he's turned on and ordered to get the hell out of dodge. Military discipline kicks in.] Yes... yes, sir. [And then he's running, even if he hates it, because he just got an order, and even if his addled brain can't sort anything else out yet, it can sort that out.]
