Snape was up and listening for Arthas. After so many weeks passing between their original agreement to make this attempt and today, he supposed the inmate was growing impatient. It seemed, unfortunately, that time slipped away on the Barge. Things got in the way. Floods. Ports. Inmates. Personal distractions. Paris and police.
He had gone through the usual procedures - removing memories which he might not want Arthas to see - though he doubted the other man would have the same ability to enter his mind as Potter had. All the same, volatile scenes were placed in a Pensieve, and it, in turn, was locked away in his bedroom. Leaving it out and accessible had been a mistake. Or, perhaps, a subconscious desire to allow Potter to see just what his father was. More of the former than the latter, of course.
As for the rest: cabinets were locked, cats relegated to the bathroom, glass and delicate silver instruments carefully put away. Max Guevara had reacted with violence when he had used these tactics on her to unlock her memories of the Barge; Arthas was far larger and deadlier than Max had been. The room might not do well under his assault, and Severus couldn't keep replacing his supplies every time someone lost their temper in his room.
Now there was nothing but to wait.
