Beatty had come in earlier and had stayed off to the side, too alarmed by what the barge had become to care about what had happened before. He had been content to hide for a while, but Cissie's message had alarmed him.

He woke up to the sound of water and, blinking a bit, sat up, rubbing his sore shoulders.

"What are you doing?"

The stare that he gave O'Brien was a mixture of confusion and revulsion. Yes, he knew what that meant, but...to hear him talk about his warden like that was more than surprising.

"No. You didn't tell me about that at all." He stood up and stretched his arms over his head. "I think you should."

Beatty shook his head, his eyes following that line he drew. Well, Beatty had seen worse than that, but he tried not to think about that. And he tried not to imagine O'Brien's warden dressing like that.

"Apparently she did," he supplied and snorted a bit. "And now what are you doing about it?"

"You have no idea what I'm thinking." Una. Dressed like that. Beatty didn't have the stigma on sex that O'Brien had, so...he was free to have whatever thoughts he wanted.

He just had the self control not to act on it.

"It's just...useful to have you around for her, I suppose." He couldn't say that with a straight face.

"Hm. Maybe you do know," he muttered and joined in the laughter before glancing into check on the bath again. "Isn't it a little early for a drink, though?" Well, that was more than a bit hypocritical, but he didn't care.

This flood or whatever it was had him rattled. It was nice to ease that feeling, just a little.

"I know," he said, referring to both the first comment and the last. He realized the reasoning behind all of this and it amused him. A lot. "Seems like a waste of good whisky is all."

"True," he said casually and leaned against the tub. "This seems like the perfect place to do it." He looked to the door. "What's changed about you? And her? Well, what should have changed?"

Beatty chuckled bitterly, as he didn't want to talk about that, either. "How long has she been gone now?" he asked, glancing to the door as he waited. He was trying not to make too much noise, as he had been afraid someone might have seen him come in.
