Who: Dracula and OPEN
When: Monday all day
Where: All Over
What: Someone's got his groove back--just in time to get a Warden.
Warnings: Charming, seductive bastardry; nothing else yet.
The depression was behind him.
Also the delusions, the memory lapses and all the bizarreness that had gone with it. And the whole time, in spite of everything, he had neither killed anyone nor even caused serious harm.
Isolating himself was clearly unnecessary. So was the endless dwelling on what he had lost. Detachment: that was the key. Detachment, and the flexibility to realize that some of the social tactics he had employed during his...affliction...were actually useful. He could no longer captivate people magically with gaze or gesture, but he could still be quite...charming.
The whole idea had come to him while he was updating his coded notes. Coming here had put him on the defensive, made him reactionary and restrained instead of confidently proactive. Regaining his icy equilibrium allowed him to view the entire situation with much more clarity.
So justice here was flawed and canted toward the mortals' benefit. So he went now without vindication. So apparently Floods were a free pass to get out of responsibility for one's actions. Perhaps he could use that. Especially if he could find ways to gain the cooperation of any variants of himself through the correspondences he was creating. He wasn't looking to start any conflicts, but he was damned well going to find a way to end any that others began with him, without being punished for defending or vindicating himself.
All in all, though, he had less problems now with his new existence. He was starting to learn the ropes. Yes, he had a Warden now, but at least said Warden was well mannered and relatively reasonable. Yes, nine out of ten of the people he had had personable conversations with during his affliction had turned out to be Wardens as well. But perhaps getting to know them would make this whole arrangement chafe a bit less. The whole thing was a fresh challenge; that was it. A challenge to find freedom, power and pleasure within the limits of his new world.
In spite of his coldness, he found that he could use some company as well. He even thought, though in a much more remote way, about those whom he had met. How had they fared? Were they still viable as potential allies?
It was time to go have a look around...with new eyes.
