The human brain wasn't that fascinating.

Somewhere in the depths of a squat old bulldog of a building on a street with geography that could be called shifty at best (Hawaii, Chicago's suburbs, office buildings, all sharing fluid space), Karrin Murphy sat at a desk that shouldn't've belonged to her any more, looking over a report that seemed oddly familiar. Her door stood propped open to catch the noise of the SI's office, so she could tell if someone came in--there was a subtle change in the currents of interaction outside, depending on who it was. Superior, witness, civilian, criminal. Harry.

The bumper sticker across the cheap glass of her door was starting to peel. TRESPASSERS WILL BE KILLED AND EATEN. She'd have to ask Carmichael where he'd gotten it.

Except there was no Carmichael, and there hadn't been for a long time.

She shook her head, rubbing her temples. "God, I need a nap or something."

"Someone beat you to it," Gabriel said, per usual from behind her, because appearing in front of her, like a sane, normal person, was just beneath him, except in certain circumstances.

He stepped away from the back wall and swaggered around to the front of her desk, taking in every detail and ignoring Murphy, herself, for the moment.

...Yep. Human brains were boring.

Murphy flinched, his presence bringing with it a kaleidoscope of feelings and memories that had no place in this office or this time. The room swirled, stirring like someone ran a stick through still water. The barge, her room--and then her office again, with Gabriel, who of course was supposed to be there.

She looked back down at the file. "What d'you want, Gabriel?"

Gabriel kicked the door shut. "World peace," he said with a sardonic headtilt. "And a pony." He crossed back over to her, putting one hand down on the desk and the other on the back of her chair so that he was sort of halfway leaning over her.

"You're dreaming, Murphy. And, by the way? Your dreams are boring. I was expecting... I dunno. Naked on a subway or something."

Expecting, kind of halfway hoping... Same difference.
