Donnie wasn't so much disoriented when he woke up in a hospital bed as he was silently hopeful. That maybe the primary universe had been put back on track but that he hadn't died in the fall of the jet engine and hadn't been stabbed in the stomach by the crash. Slowly sitting up, he began to realize that there was no noise in this place. He was still in his own clothes with no signs of actually being a patient here.
Stumbling out of the room, he was looking around for someone else. Wandering the halls for something between twenty and thirty minutes (which was, of course, really only about ten), the inmate finally heard a noise. He called out to the noise, not so much afraid as genuinely curious. "Who's there?"
The noise stopped, then a figure came around the corner. It was definitely not anyone he knew, the creature's eye falling from its socket as it shifted awkwardly to glare at Donnie. Then it bolted forward, intent on killing the boy. Naturally, in all his smooth awesomeness, he fell backward to the ground and threw an arm up over his head in one of those worthless gestures of protection of his face.
