And suddenly she felt all the more tired, just for the thought of what she must do.
They finally reached the door to the infirmary and Angelica led the way to where she thought Martha might be waiting. Though she knew not how it was possible to hear or see a babe so young, she trusted Martha and her brand of medicine.

"Are you ready to see the baby?" She asked quickly, hoping that they were. She'd highjacked the largest screen she could find, and she'd hooked it up with a printer so that Sexby would at least have a likeness of what the child looked like at six weeks. Of course it would look little to nothing like it when the child was born, but still, it would be somethingHaving something to hold onto would probably be good for both of them, and having this chance to give the baby at least a shot at a better and healthier life in the 17th century was something that she needed to do. Already Martha ( ... )

It was unfortunate, for she thought Sexby would make a fine father indeed. More than unfortunate, but that was life and she knew it. Perhaps if they had not been allowed to become so close...
Nay. She knew she would have missed him still, even without the benefit of the Barge. How could she not?
"Now, what should I do?" She smiled towards Martha, wondering where she might sit and if it required removing her bodice. She was anxious to see the babe growing within her, hoping that all would look well. Angelica could not bear to see her child unhealthy. She could not lose yet another child.

The screen in question was a large one that Martha had dragged over from her bedroom, so they would be able to see everything. "Now, the child doesn't look fully formed right now, being as she's only six weeks along, but you will be able to see what she looks like inside."

It was a little odd, lying down upon a table and waiting to see inside herself, but she trusted Martha and had very little fear so long as her husband stayed by her side. So far she was able to keep herself clothed, and that was more than all-right by her. "A little babe? I expect it looks..." Angelica screwed up her face. "Hmn." She was just as curious as her husband, and watched Martha and then the screen expectantly.

Martha took a seat on the rolling stool and looked to them both. "Now that that's out of the way, are you two ready to hear the baby's heartbeat?" Martha grinned to them quickly, her finger resting on the button that would turn the wooshing on the screen into the sound played across the speakers. First though... "Because the child is so small, her heartbeat will sound a little odd. Don't panic, it's perfectly normal."

Angelica visibly tensed in her anticipation of hearing her child's heart. She took her husband's hand for comfort, nodding for Martha to go on and let them hear their child, her dear Elizabeth, growing inside of her.
She could scarcely believe that Sexby was by her side for this.

The sound vibrated around them, quick and strong. It was fast and made a wooshing noise, but it was how it was to be expected at six weeks along. "Thats her heart beat. It's good and strong and just how it should be sounding for how far along you are." Martha had decided she would allow them to hear it and then she would show them, letting them become more familiar with the fact that they could hear the child before she showed them her.

Somehow, saying those words just made her all the more joyful. This was their daughter. How tremendous! How moving a moment, and how miraculous that it could be shared. "Our daughter," she added, correcting herself with a small laugh. She glanced at Martha and flashed a small grin.

The image was strikingly clear when it came up on screen, and Martha quickly started to gesture at it, trying to stop any sort of panic for how unfamiliar the child looked. "Right now," Martha said quickly, "she's the size of a kidney bean and you could hold her between two fingers." Her two fingers gestured toward the monitor. "That's her brain, starting to develop. And these are her eyes, she has eyelids at the moment, but she can't see anything yet."
