[A sudden and jarring shake hits sometime shortly after dinner. Odd creakings in the bowels of the ship are heard, and then all is still. Soon, the familiar but unplaceable voice of the Admiral is heard in all corners of the ship. However, the voice, familiar, is distinctly higher-pitched than usual.]

You may choose whether they are aware of the change or believe they've always been that way.
