A trap

Jan 10, 2010 18:01

Who: The Rani Ushas and Selene
What: Ushas attempts to incapacitate (not kill) Selene and steal a bunch of stuff.
Where: A lab space in the hellhole known as the infirmary.
When: The day after this exchange
Warnings: Nastiness from the engineered virus.

Normally the trashing of the infirmary would have bent Ushas seriously out of shape, but she considered it serendipitous this time )

selene, the rani

In either reality, it was true to say that Selene was no scientist. She had an analytical mind, but her speciality was in hunting down and eradicating things ( ... )

"Yes. I must admit, I'm quite pleased with it. It's keyed very specifically to certain markers peculiar to the human genome, and should prove no risk to you. Or myself, for that matter." She removed the isolation dish from the microscope and nodded toward the humans. "Would you care bring them in to do the honours? It is your project, after all."

"Yes, well... Considering my own differences, I've little to worry about."

That was a trait this version of Selene had inherited more of from Viktor: A heightened sense of arrogance and assumption that certain aspects of leverage would prevent particular consequences. Otherwise, she might have picked up on an otherwise blatent new verbal clue.

With a swift yank, the glass was slid open and her captives pulled inside. Door closing behind her.

"I assume they're already breathing it in? Or do I need to get them to touch something?"

A quick glance was made at her watch. Selene was a stickler for efficiency, no matter the reality.

"When I open the isolation dish, the exposure will be complete," she replied, not meeting the victims' eyes. Apparent remorse. If she was right, though, they would be fine.

Pythia, she hoped she was right.

She took a step toward the humans; she'd have liked to at least give them a reassuring look, but she couldn't risk it, and her hearts hurt at the sight of fear on their faces. She opened the lid of the isolation dish and set it on the ground before them.

And as she rose to her feet, with a flick of the wrist, she sent the lid flying at Selene's face. It wasn't entirely necessary and was frankly a bit theatrical for her tastes-but with any luck it would speed matters up nicely.

Well. Assuming Selene didn't cut her and the poor captives to pieces in the minutes she likely would have before conking out. This could have been planned better, couldn't it?
